a la comunidad cultural de todo el mundo a presentar propuestas de ponencias para el

Congreso Internacional

“Consideraciones entre el Textil y la Sociedad:

una recapitulación”

que tendrá lugar en

el Museo de Antropología de Xalapa de la Universidad Veracruzana

en la Ciudad de Xalapa, Veracruz, México

del 16 al 19 de mayo, 2011.

Planteamiento:

A finales del siglo 20 se anticipaba que se presentaran grandes cambios, grandes mejoras y rutas iluminadas en todos los aspectos de la vida incluyendo la cultura. Sin embargo, no nos detuvimos a reflexionar sobre el tren de desarrollo que llevamos desde los cambios iniciados siglos atrás, no solo con el avance del dominio de Europa sobre los continentes americanos y demás culturas del mundo hasta la actual situación de consumo globalizada intensificada en un ritmo que no para.

Este ritmo sigue acelerándose cada vez más sin cambiar de rumbo, aun más agudizado y no del todo en beneficio de las personas, comunidades ni del planeta. Asimismo, en las artes, el textil - de utilidad cotidiana y de una necesidad imperativa que crea  moda, imagen, identidad, conocimiento y lenguaje - tiene una historia que está unida a la humanidad desde sus inicios. Se intercala con el desarrollo de todas las culturas. En dados momentos ha sido exaltado, anhelado a tal grado que ha movilizado imperios y considerado entre las artes más sobresalientes.

Sin embargo, después de un breve intenso resurgimiento de aceptación las artes modernas en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, la expresión textil fue nuevamente empujada a los márgenes del Arte. Este congreso pretende crear un espacio para una reflexión del papel de las artes textiles - del textil en general, en la actualidad, en todas sus vertientes, en los rincones y cruces que afectan la sociedad y culturas,  así como un medio de expresión resistente y creativa de quienes lo cultivan.

Ejes Temáticos:

1.     El legado del pasado.

- La herencia milenaria en la contemporaneidad, aportes y su supervivencia.

2. La tradición actual – resistencia, intervenciones y renovación.

-        Producciones e ingenio en medio de la globalización,

-        Relación con las sociedades.

3. Lenguajes del Textil

-     La complejidad y diversidad de los idiomas textiles en sus cruces con otras

     disciplinas, 

-        Prácticas, ideas, conceptos, técnicas y procesos.

4. El textil en la vida cotidiana.

-    Problemas de impacto e inserciones en la sociedad contemporánea 

-        Textiles como prácticas de vida.

5. Perspectivas al futuro: creatividad, continuidad, educación

-        Renovando significados y rutas alternativas.

Propuestas de Ponencias y Selección:

Los idiomas del Congreso serán Español e Inglés.

Por medio de sinopsis/abstractas  las propuestas de ponencias serán evaluadas por un comité científico internacional. Las sinopsis no deben ser menor a 150 palabras y no mayor de 300  en torno a una problemática textil dentro de las líneas temáticas arriba delineadas.

La fecha límite para presentar propuestas de ponencias será el 1 de marzo del 2011.

Estas deberán venir como adjuntos como documento de Word 97 con los siguientes datos incluidos:

• Nombre, fecha y lugar de nacimiento, dirección postal y correo electrónico.
• Institución de adscripción o agrupación.
• Currículo de Vida resumido – 250 palabras.
• Título y Sinopsis de la Ponencia, máximo 300 palabras.
• Mesa temática de su preferencia.

El Comité Científico emitirá su decisión e informará a los aspirantes sobre su aceptación el 8 de marzo del 2011.

Cada ponente tendrá 10 minutos para presentar su ponencia. Habrá 5 minutos de preguntas para cada una.

Una vez aceptadas, se requiere para el 15 de abril 2011 - que las ponencias completas – con duración de 10 minutos cada una - sean enviadas electrónicamente como archivo Word, 11 pts. Márgenes 2.5 cm por los cuatro lados, para fines de traducción.

Se proyecta publicar una Memoria con ISBN de las ponencias del congreso.

Se emitirán Constancias de participación a los Ponentes.

International Conference

“Considerations between Textiles and Society: a recapitulation”

to be held at the

Museum of Anthropology of Xalapa – Museo de Antropología de Xalapa (MAX)

of the Universidad Veracruzana

in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico

from the 16^th to the 19^th of May, 2011.

Context:

Towards the end of the 20th Century, great changes were anticipated, grand developments and illuminated routes in all aspects of life including culture. Yet a great part of humanity did not stop to reflect on the rate of developments that had taken on even greater speed. These initiated already centuries before with the European advances toward dominion over continents and diverse regions, leading up to the present situation of intensified global consumption, in a rhythm that does not cease. Its accelerated pace seems not to change course; each time it is more intense and not entirely beneficial to Mankind or towards the Planet.

All along, textiles are interlaced in the development of diverse cultures. With a history linked to Humanity’s beginnings, textiles, of daily-life utility, are an imperative necessity that creates fashion, image, identity, knowledge and language

In given moments of history, textiles have been exalted and coveted to such a degree that they have had the power to mobilize empires and be ranked among the highest of the arts. Yet they have also taken quieter routes.

After a brief intense resurgence in the late 20^th century when textiles were accepted in the contemporary arts, textile expressions again have been pushed to Art’s margins. This conference proposes to create a space for reflecting on the different roles of textiles from influential heritage to changing traditions, from the present to the future, from the corners and crossings that affect society and culture to textiles as means of resistance, creativity and education.

Thematic axes:

1. Legacy from the Past

-Millenary heritage in the Present, contributions and survival.

2. Present Traditions – resistance, interventions and renovation.

- Production and ingenuity in the midst of globalization;

 - Ties to society.

3. Languages of Textiles

- The complexity and diversity of textile languages in their crossings with other disciplines, practices, ideas, concepts, techniques and processes.

4. Textiles in Daily Life

- Problems of impact and insertion in contemporary society;

- Textiles as life practice.

5. Perspectives towards the future: creativity, continuity and education.

Renovating significances and alternatives routes.

Proposals for Papers and Selection:

The languages of the Conference will be Spanish and English.

Through abstracts the proposals for papers will be evaluated by the Conference’s international scientific committee. The abstracts must not be less than 150 words and not more than 300. These should approach a textile issue outlined in the thematic axes noted above.

The deadline for presenting abstracts is March 1, 2011.

The abstracts should come as Word 97 documents with the following data included:

• Name, date and place of birth, postal address, email
• Institution, society or group
• Brief Curriculum Vitae – 250 words maximum.
• Title and synopsis of the paper, maximum 300 words.
• Preferred thematic axis.

The Scientific Committee will inform its decision for accepted papers by March 8, 2011.

Each speaker will have 10 minutes present his paper. There will be 5 minutes for questions.

Once accepted, the full text must be sent in by April 15, 2011. The paper must be sent as a Word 97 file. Arial 11 pts, 1 1/2 spaced.  Margins 2.5 cm on all four sides,

The Proceedings of the Conference will be published with ISBN.

Diplomas of participation will be emitted to the speakers.
